Jamaica Blue mountain, Hawaiian Kona, classic Colombians, or smooth PNG - they're all great, but one that always stands out for us, is Yirgacheffe.

Known for its sweet flavour and aroma with a medium body. Ethiopian Yirgacheffes are spicy, fragrant and frequently regarded and rated as some of the highest quality Arabica coffee beans in the world.

Their premium reputation carries a premium price, but even so, we think it is well worth it! Grown at elevations from 1,700 to 2,200 meters above sea level, Yirgacheffe is the considered the best high-altitude coffee region in southern Ethiopia.

These beans a grown mainly in small gardens belonging to families who live around the 'kabele' (town) of Aricha. Families typically have a 'garden' size of between 0.5 to 2 hectares, producing 1 to 10 bags of green coffee.

Most Yirgacheffe coffee, like this one, is organic. Aricha is on the eastern slope of the lush green mountains of the Rift Valley. The remote hills of this region are coffee's homeland and birthplace. Many of the plants being harvested are wild or semi-wild grown on properties where coffee farming is not the primary source of income. The soil around Yirgacheffe is rich in iron, and this combined with the altitude and consistent rainfall, make ideal growing conditions of which the coffee plants are perfectly adapted.
